The Social Group was started in 1997 by Andrew Haglington, the man who invented social networking. No-one knows the social sector of the economy better than we do ...because we invented it!
When we started this groundbreaking new project, no-one else had ever done anything like this before, not specifically running a large programme of social events in this way.
Social networking is our idea.
If it's referred to as "social" in the modern context, that's probably referring to The Social Group.
The Social Group is "The Social Network". Everyone else copied our use of this name.
Our vision of social networking was not only to enable people to connect, but to provide a ready-made "group of friends" for people to go out and socialise with.
By the end of the 1990's, this was already a massive success, and over the years since, we have raised money for numerous charities and good causes, as well as helping many thousands of people to make friends and enjoy a great social life!
Parent company Social Group Enterprises Ltd. was set up in the UK in 2003. Registered Number 4690215. Directors are husband and wife team Andrew Haglington B.A. (Hons) and Catherine Haglington.

The franchise business partners we are looking for may wish to operate a branch of The Social Group part-time in a smaller area as a useful second income, or operate The Social Group for a larger population as a major business run by their own full-time team. Subject to availability, various options are available. As a Social Group franchisee, you will be able run your own business in the same way we have already established, with our guidance, training, support, and assistance. All franchises must be run in a similar way to what was originally established with Devon Social Group http://www.devonsocialgroup.com. We will show you how to do everything, help you avoid making costly mistakes, and teach you all you need to know to be able to run a successful branch of The Social Group. An event organiser background is not necessary, nor is a large amount of capital. Although you will need to make an investment in the business, you should soon be able to recoup your outlay. Prices start at a very modest and affordable start up fee, with various options available, depending on how much is to be included and done for you.

You will only need to attract a relatively modest number of members to be able to get your investment back and be able to start making a profit. With our help and guidance, you should be able to achieve this and more.
The basic franchise package covers a term of 5 years, during which you will have exclusivity within your territory. The franchise term will normally start from the date the franchise fee and bond are paid in full, unless different arrangements are agreed to defer the commencement date for up to six months, which may be necessary if the franchisee needs additional time to get organised. The franchise fee is non-refundable 7 days after the franchise fee has been paid.
The main investment is paid before you begin. In subsequent years, there is a small annual franchise fee to pay, usually 10% of the original franchise fee, plus any fees required to cover the costs of url domain names, web sites, social media marketing services, email addresses, dedicated telephone numbers, etc. or any other bespoke work or services we are supplying to you, which will be individually costed.
At the outset, we also request a bond, usually 20% of the original franchise fee, fully refundable at the conclusion of the franchise period assuming everything has gone to plan, but which is forfeit if franchisees renege upon the terms and conditions of the franchise agreement, or bring The Social Group into disrepute in any way, or cease trading during the franchise term. It is expected for franchisees to honour the franchise agreement.
The basic franchise package we offer includes a detailed and informative series of data discs, help to get things up and running, help with advertising and marketing, as well as showing you how to make your new business viable and sustainable, with us giving you lots of back-up and help, and the benefit of our many years of our experience as market leaders in this field, making things as easy as possible for you.
The basic cost is extremely good value, and this includes permission to use the established brand name "The Social Group", permission to use our recognised logo, unique admin systems that are tried and tested, copies of office stationery which you will need for admin and which will make the job much easier for you, access to our huge database of photographs, copies of our previous programmes of events for you to be able to adapt and utilise, typed out event templates for hundreds of events, and much more.
Also included, is the set up a dedicated Twitter page to help your franchise get started, with us putting our extensive and unique network of web content and social media to use iin helping promote your franchise. This 'Twitter For Business' service can make a huge difference in raising your profile and bringing more customers to view your website and the services you offer. In effect, you become part of the extended network of Social Group online content and benefit from all the exposure that gives you.
The exact cost of each franchise will reflect how much additional involvement you want from us and what if any other services you wish us to provide (which is likely to largely depend upon how much business experience you have), and also, how large a geographical area you intend to be your own exclusive territory. We are happy to tailor each franchise to suit your own individual preferences.
As a Social Group franchisee, your income will be derived from annual membership fees, from charges made to take part on individual events, from corporate event organising opportunities, commissions on holiday sales, and from merchandising and advertising revenue possibilities.
No-one knows the hospitality sector better than we do. Social Networking was originally our own idea, dating back to 1997, which was 7 years before Facebook and 10 years before Twitter. Ours is the organisation that started social networking. Therefore you have a unique selling point, certain to interest the local press, helping you attract numerous initial customers, and adding weight to you being able to get your local area branch of The Social Group off the ground. You can only do this as an official franchise business partner of The Social Group!
We have all kinds of expertise in how to run a branch of The Social Group. We have researched, organised, and hosted thousands of social events. Additional optional costs you might wish to consider include us setting up a low cost web site for as little as £79, us arranging for you to have an email account, and us arranging to provide your franchise with a low cost dedicated telephone number. Also, we can offer you an option on an extended social media marketing package to help you get your franchise off the ground and advise on what sort of advertising is likely to be most effective. Also, if you want us to come onboard as your business mentors and consultants, helping you more hands-on in an ongoing capacity.
As another optional extra, we also offer a personal in depth 1-2-1 training course, where you will learn how to become a successful Social Group franchisee. We’ll personally train you, show you what works best, help you learn all our systems, and enable you to practise every skill you will need, helping you avoid many of the pitfalls of running your own business. The course will include the basics of admin, accounts, taking payments, booking events, handling enquiries, telephone manner, preparing newsletter magazines from our templates, planning an event programme, making new member welcome packs, establishing credibility and trust, sales, marketing, development, hosting events, and all the rest. Invaluable first-hand expertise, especially if you are new to running your own business. Training afternoons for franchisees 2pm - 6pm are usually charged at the nominal fee of just £50pp per session. Training can only begin after the franchise fee and bond is paid in full and after all the paperwork is signed. Training normally takes place in Devon, England. We recommend all UK franchisees take up this option, as it should prove invaluable.
