THE INVENTION OF LYING (2009)
Just back from our local Vue Cinema to see the excellent new Ricky Gervais movie, "The Art Of Lying". We thought this was not only very very funny, but also really ingenious. The full genius of Ricky Gervais is shown in the offbeat concept, in the clever story, and in the sensitivity of the humour.
If you love The Office and Extras on TV, and if you enjoy Woody Allen, Monty Python, and the old Ealing classics such as Kind Hearts & Coronets, certainly this is not one to miss!
This fabulous movie is subtle and poignant, full of social comment and parody. It's also very nice and gentle, and at times, quite inspirational.
The basic premise is a world where absolutely everyone tells the truth all the time, until one man comes up with the idea of lying and becomes an overnight sensation, with plenty of laugh out loud moments throughout. Probably the best film we have seen all year!
THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 10/10

Perhaps the best sci-fi blockbuster of 2009, the fourth Terminator movie finds Christian Bale taking on the role of the iconic rebel leader John Connor rallying the human race after the nuclear holocaust of ‘judgement day’.
Largely filmed in the wilds of New Mexico, Terminator Salvation picks up the story in 2018, after the destruction of human civilization by the artificial intelligence known as Skynet and tells the story of the long-foretold ‘future war’ against the robots and machines.
What really works so well with this film is that it combines all the best elements of the first three films without being repetitive or cheesy. The story is well written and it is both engaging and hugely enjoyable, even with a surprise cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger - now the governor of California.
Terminator Salvation is a classic, much better than it sounds. After this success, more films are inevitable - yes, ‘they’ll be back’!
The American version of the Ricky Gervais classic BBC sitcom ‘The Office’ started slowly. For fans of the familiar British series, it was hard to accept anyone else in the roles of David Brent, Tim, and Gareth. However, our version ended all too soon, while the U.S. version has progressed to further episodes and taken on a life of it’s own. Recent episodes have been just as cringingly funny as ‘The Office’ ever was and is just as much a classic.
Steve Carell and the new team are fabulous in their roles, and we can only hope this runs and runs.
Please give this a go, as it’s really rewarding once you get into it and it never fails to make us laugh.
With Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant as executive producers, it’s basically all the additional ideas and very funny material they either didn’t manage to fit into UK’s ‘Office’ in the first place, or have thought of since the BBC version ended.
This really is one of the very funniest shows of recent years, and at it’s best, it’s simply wonderful! Full of nuance and beautifully crafted gags. Must see TV! Don't miss it!
