WE'RE SUPPORTING ENGLAND IN THE FOOTBALL WORLD CUP! GOOD LUCK ENGLAND!

National days of celebration in England are mostly focussed on Christmas, and to a lesser extent on Public Bank Holidays, Easter, and even Pancake Day & Halloween.

The English don't really support St. George's Day (APRIL 23rd) as their national day, not to the same extent as the Irish with St. Patrick's Day.  In England, our national day isn't even a public holiday! (SHAME!)

So supporting England in the Football World Cup Finals is as close as we ever get to a national celebration of England!

We think it's great to see our national red & white flag everywhere!  In shops, bars, pubs, offices, & homes across the nation, the English flags are everywhere! If you want some for your car, they are two for 25p in Tesco!

Also, England is in need of a boost.  The last year has been nothing but bad news, with the Credit Crunch, Recession, Swine Flu, MP's Expenses, Big Freeze, Debt, and Volcanic Dust Cloud!

We think everyone is in need of sunny weather and something to shout about!  A celebration of England could not have been more needed!

Come on England!  We really need you to do well this time!

ENGLAND’S FIXTURES

Saturday, June 12, 7.30pm - ENGLAND v USA (Rustenburg)

Friday, June 18, 7.30pm - ENGLAND v Algeria (Cape Town)

Wednesday, June 23, 3pm - ENGLAND v Slovenia (Port Elizabeth)

The draw was announced to much excitement in ENGLAND, with eager anticipation of easy wins against the USA, Algeria, & Slovenia for ENGLAND, and what appears to be an easy passage to the quarter final knockout stage of the World Cup!

AMERICAN FOOTBALL?

With an important draw against England in the Football World Cup Finals in South Africa, there is finally a match that will matter to US citizens. It will matter to Americans because it will matter to the English more than any other event in the sporting & cultural calendar. Americans, who are competetive by nature, will not want to be beaten by the best England team to take part in the World Cup Finals in years. June 12th 2009 will be a major fixture.

Football v Soccer - the match is on!

A recent survey in the U.K. to find the most hated word in the English language revealled that the word "Soccer" is the one most of us despise above all others.

61 million UK citizens call the game "football".  After all, it is played with a foot and a ball.

The American version of "football" played largely by picking up the ball and running with it is not seen by anyone in the UK as deserving to be known as "football".

There are records of earlier forms of football being played in China that date back almost 2000 years; and a form of the game was enjoyed in ancient Greece and Rome. However it was in England that this sport was to take shape and become the game the world now recognises as football.

England sees itself as the home of football.  The world's first ever football club was Sheffield F.C. established in Sheffield, England in 1857, laying down a standard set of rules for the game for the first time.  The world's first ever inter-city football match was between Sheffield F.C. and London City F.C. in 1866.

The British have played "football" ever since - NOT "soccer"!

The best stance when learning to ski is to bend your knees in a crouching goalkeeper position, and to hold your arms in front of you as if carrying a tray of drinks.  Most beginners have problems to start with because they tend to stand upright too much and don’t feel secure enough to lean forward down into the slope.
